Footbridge at Ardsley Viaduct, Barnsley

Barnsley Council required a new footbridge in a very difficult location in the shadow of the viaduct at Ardsley.

Due to access restrictions, the bridge had to be manufactured in component form and suspended on two gallow brackets attached to the viaduct.

The steel beams were spliced to allow delivery on two articulated hiab vehicles for site assembly by CTS installation teams.

The 23.6m x 1.4m steel and timber footbridge had a Type A (vertical infill) parapet and a Hi-Grip Excel non-slip deck to provide a non-slip surface for pedestrians.

Martin Sunderland from Barnsley Council commented 'The remote location of this bridge presented us all with a challenge but the final result was worth the effort'.'  He also thanked CTS's personnel and said it was a pleasure doing business with us.
