Footbridge installed via floating down River Avon |
| |
|
| |
A new 18m x 2m footbridge was floated down the River Avon before it was installed on site at Bath Marina for British Waterways.
Due to difficult access to the bridge site the only way to get the bridge to the site was to deliver the bridge further up the River where the bridge could be lifted off the delivery vehicle and loaded onto a floating pontoon. The bridge was then floated down the River Avon to the bridge site and installed from the River using a crane on the pontoon.
Prior to the new bridge's arrival on site an old Glue-laminated bridge was dismantled by CTS and taken off site for disposal. |

Riverside Collection Bridge, Abingdon for Barratt Homes |
| |
|
| |
Teamwork played an important role in the installation of the new cycle bridge at Thames View in Abingdon for Barratt Homes.
Fergal Contractors contacted CTS to build a 22m x 3.3m cyclebridge for their client Barratt Homes. The new bridge was to be built to a design supplied to the Client by RPS (and approved by Oxfordshire County Council) that incorporated 10 bronze panels inspired by a tenth century Abingdon Sword that was found nearby.
Due to the tricky access, the bridge was delivered in part assembled form to site by CTS's haulier Hollingworth Haulage who specialise in abnormal loads. The bridge was then craned over the top of the part built houses with installation being overseen by CTS's installation team.
Liason between CTS and the sculptor ensured that the painted steel bridge parapet and the bronze panels were fitted on the same day
The 400 x 800 bronze panels were created by sculptor Richard Farrington (www.richardfarrington.com)and depicted images that were found on the handle of the sword.
