Cable Stay Bridges

Landmark Structures

These striking bridges form a bold statement against the skyline.   Cable stay structures are generally used for spans over 50m in length and this can be achieved with one cable tower or two. Tensioned Macalloy bars affix to the mast and support the bridge deck at regular points along the walkway resulting in a lightweight structural solution.
Installation and access issues become critical design parameters with this type of structure – buildability is key.

Typically for spans over 50m in length, some of the images on this page show various aspects of Southbridge Cable Stay
